Ciaran Hinds Biography
Belfast native Ciaran Hinds has acted in many roles. He has starred in theater productions, movies and television, and has a world wide fan club. His fans are notoriously attentive, sometimes requiring studio executives to add extra security when the beloved actor arrives on set.
Humble beginnings
Ciaran Hinds was born February 9, 1953 in Belfast, Ireland. He started attending college as a law student, but the acting bug soon bit him, and he quickly enrolled in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He then honed his acting and theater skills while a member of the Glasgow Citizens Theater. This is where he had his first role in the play Cinderella.
Moving on
Hinds made his debut in film with his performance in the movie Excalibur in 1981. He followed that role with major parts in the adaptation of Jane Austen’s Persuasion. Americans probably recognize his work with Angelina Jolie in Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life in 2003. In 2004, Ciaran acted in the movie version of the acclaimed Phantom of the Opera by Andrew Lloyd Weber, and 2005 brought Munich by Spielberg. Hinds also claims roles in several other major films. When HBO tapped Ciaran for a role in the 2006 series Rome, he started acting in television shows that aired the world over. He has garnered several awards and continues bringing his characters to life in a sublime way. Ciaran currently lives in France with his partner and their daughter.
He still has it
Throughout the 1970s, Ciaran worked with several theater groups. One of his most notable roles was in The Mamabharata, a play that toured the globe. During the 1990s, he was a very active member of the Royal Shakespeare Company. While with this company, he found an immediate fan base when he played the lead in Richard III. In 1992, Ciaran received his first award for Best Debut Actor, followed by the Outer Critics Award for Special Achievement.
