Ciaran Hinds in "Ivanhoe"

In the movie "Ivanhoe," Sir Brian de Bois-Gilbert is arrogant and snobbish. However, Ciaran Hinds manages to portray him as the unlikely likable villain. The character is a man who has loved and lost, and is conniving and cold-hearted. This adaptation of Robin Hood allows viewers a trip back to the fairy tale land of childhood imagination, where the good guys win and they always get the princess.

The actor was close to his birth place of Ireland during the filming of the movie, which is set in 12th century England. They filmed in several castles throughout the lush English countryside, including several authentic castles. Ciaran said the worst part of filming were the days the actors filmed the duel scenes, where they wore authentic chain mail. The costumes weighed about 40 pounds, and filming was during the sweltering and humid summer months. The actor did his own stunts for the film, including the horseback riding. Ciaran mentioned in an article that his costar, the horse – Star named Fury, was the "epitome of a seasoned actor." He said “The horse was an expert, and he tolerated my inexperience in the saddle, even when my equestrian inexperience required numerous retakes while wearing the heavy armor of his character and mine."
Ciaran Hinds was adept at (and is rumored to have enjoyed) providing entertainment to hundreds of thousands of people. He is long remembered for this pivotal role in the Robin Hood-esque adaptation, "Ivanhoe."
